CLEANING EFFICIENCY

All pressure washers are NOT the same. Components, engines, frames, unloader, accessories and most importantly - pumps, all vary in quality and capability.

Your cleaning application dictates your cleaning needs. You may need high pressure (as measured in Pounds Per Square Inch: PSI) to blast away dirt, or you may need flow (as measured in Gallons Per Minute:GPM) to flush and push the dirt and grime away. Either way Atlantic offers pressure washers with a wide range of pressure and flow combinations to meet your cleaning needs.

All pressure washers are rated by E.C.U's. (Effective Cleaning Units). To understand this formula you take your pressure washer's pressure measured in pounds per square inch (PSI) and multiply by the flow measured in gallons per minute (GPM), giving you the effective cleaning units (ECU) of your pressure washer. (PSI x GPM = ECU). For example, if you were looking at a pressure washer that had 2,000 PSI and 2 GPM it would have 4,000 effective cleaning units.

Below is a list of the units offered by Atlantic and the ECU rating for each:

PRESSURE WASHER PSI GPM ECU APPLICATION
K120 Jr. 1,400 1.6 2,240 Home
C5 2,000 2.8 5,600 Home
A5 2,000 2.8 5,600 Home or Light Commercial
A7 2,500 3.0 8,750 Home or Light Commercial
A11 3,000 4.0 12,000 Commercial
A304 3,000 4.0 12,000 Industrial
A354 3,500 4.0 14,000 Industrial
A18 4,000 4.0 16,000 Commercial
A3005 3,000 5.0 15,000 Industrial

If you use a Dirt Killer or Industrial Dirt Killer rotary nozzle the ECU is 50% higher than with a normal flat tip nozzle, so the 4,000 ECU unit acts like a 6,000 ECU unit. Below is a list of the units offered by Atlantic and the ECU for each with a Dirt Killer(DK) or Industrial Dirt Killer (IDK) nozzle:

PRESSURE WASHER Normal ECU ECU with DK or IDK nozzle Accessory package required to

HOME ELECTRIC PRESSURE WASHER

For around the home we offer the K120 Jr. A small powerful electric pressure washer equipped with a rotary nozzle for tough cleaning tasks, and the versatile variojet nozzle for soap application and rinsing. This unit has an industrial style brass Kränzle pump with stainless steel ceramic-coated plungers that make for worry free operation. This pump is so durable you can even walk away to answer the phone and leave it running and not worry about burning up the pump unlike other small electric units you typically see.

GAS PRESSURE WASHERS

Atlantic Pressure Washers gas units utilize durable HONDA engines on our commercial and industrial quality 2,000, 3,000 PSI pressure washers, and a 18 hp V-Twin VANGUARD engine for our industrial 4,000 PSI pressure washers.

We chose the durable HONDA engine for its ability to run many trouble free hours. We selected the 18 hp V-Twin VANGUARD for it's low torque capability, making it the perfect engine for the muscle behind Atlantic's powerful 4,000 PSI pressure washer.

These gas pressure washers employ high quality triplex plunger pumps with an all brass construction for resistance to rust and corrosives. Our gas units use the highly rated General pump with a limited five year pump warranty. Atlantic models: A304, A354, and A18 are built with the finest quality pressure regulating unloader available in the market place today from Kränzle. The industrial grade belt drive models A304 and A354 have stainless steel frames and belt guards.

Unlike pressure washers sold elsewhere, Atlantic Pressure Washers gas washers use AMERICAN quick connects at the gun-wand/nozzles/hose and pump. Check out the showroom to look over the different models and accessory options.

Atlantic Pressure Washers sells three styles of gas-powered, cold-water pressure washers:

Direct-drive gas pressure washers

In direct drive systems the pump is connected directly to the engine. So the pump spins at the same speed as the engine -- typically 3,600 RPM. This system has the advantage of being simple, with few moving parts -- therefore less expensive.

Gear-drive gas pressure washers

To slow the pump down to get more life out of the bearings and seals; a gear-reduction assembly is mounted between the engine and the pump. This cuts the pump rotation speed by one half saving bearing and seal life, generating more torque, and making a more industrial unit.

Belt-drive gas pressure washers

Belt drive pressure washers are more durable by design. By using belts and pulleys, the pump is slowed: spinning at less than half the speed of the engine. Unlike direct drive pumps that spin at the same high speed as the engine, belt drive units' design saves the life of bearings and other internal parts. Moreover, by isolating the pump from the engine, it runs cooler, thus further insuring the long-term durability required in an industrial product.

Pump life chart

The pump life chart is a rough way of comparing the average pump life of the different gas drive systems based upon how much the pump spins over the life of the system. All other things being equal, the slower the pump spins, the longer the pump will last due to bearing life and the wear and tear on internal parts. The way the pump is used and exposing the pump to adverse conditions like running dry, in extended by-pass, freezing, cavitation and insufficient maintenance will significantly affect how long the pump lasts in actual conditions.
